Underglaze Colors

An Engobe is similar to a clay slip that is applied to the surface of a piece of pottery in order to change its color or add decorative accents. Supplied in dry form , these rich earth tones are beautiful either glazed or unglazed.

Use these fine-art decorating colors in watercolor pans for intricate, fine detail on figurines, dinnerware, etc. Intermix for tints and shading. Sets are packaged in plastic boxes with hinged lids.

These brilliant, ready-to-use colors cover large areas quickly, easily, and smoothly. Amaco Lead-Free Underglaze Decorating Colors are equally good for detailed painting, sgraffito, watercolor efffect, free brush, wax resist, and mishima decoration.

Vivid colors will add a bright flare to any underglaze design. Apply two even coats to mature fired bisque. Use a clear glaze to smooth out and brighten the colors. When using a clear glaze, apply over the decorated object before firing of the underglaze.

Lead-free Amaco Velvets are semi-translucent underglazes which have the appearance of velvet when left unglazed. They become opaque after three coats. When glazed with transparent matte glaze they will assume a soft, satin finish.

Speedball Ceramic Underglazes feature bright and intense colors that are highly saturated for spectacular results. The liquid, opaque colors will not move or bleed, making them perfect for detailed painting, design work, and sgraffito.
