Glazes

These special effects glazes imitate the favorites of artisan potters. They are Cone 05 oxidation glazes that yield the look of high-fired reduction stoneware and can be fired over any Amaco earthenware clay.

Amaco Crystaltex Glazes consist of a basic color with the addition of one or more crystals of contrasting colors. No two pieces will ever be alike.

Amaco Dipping Glaze is a lead-free, clear glaze that is formulated especially for dipping. It comes in a gallon jar.

Amaco F-Series Glazes are fritted and lead-free. These intense, semi-opaque brilliant colors fire with a high gloss and are safe enough to be used on pottery dishes. Come in ready-to-use liquid form.

Clear, transparent glazes are used as a finishing coat over underglaze decorations. Follow directions carefully with respect to firing and application. Cone 05.

Amaco Lead-Free Dipping Glaze is specially formulated for dipping and now available in a 1- or 5-gallon size. This white dipping glaze fires to Cone 05.

The Amaco LM Matt Glaze Series is one of the most pleasing for decorative art pottery. These glazes are supplied in liquid, ready-to-use form. Apply them on fired bisque. Slow firing is recommended.

These liquid Raku glazes are formulated to create dazzling effects and varied surfaces on non-functional pottery and sculpture. No two finished pieces will ever be the same! Cone 05 (1911° F, 1044°C).

These brilliantly colored gloss glazes are extremely popular. Amaco Dry Powdered Gloss Glaze contains gum so only water needs to be added. Mixing three parts glaze to two parts water will yield approximately one pint per 1 lb package.

Extremely popular brilliant colors. These glazes flow during firing to correct most application defects. They fire with a high gloss, and because of their flexibility, good results can be obtained on most pottery clays.

Amaco's Magic Flow lead-free, low-fire glaze imitates the unique "wiggly flow" effect of Cone 10 reduction ash glazes. Fire them only to Cone 06-05 in an electric kiln, avoiding the use of toxic ingredients.

Lead-free Majolica Gloss Decorating Colors (GDC series) have been developed specifically to produce the Majolica technique, no clear covering glaze is necessary. Colors fire glossy and assume the smooth surface of the white base glaze.

Produce an old world look with crackle glaze and your imagination. Use it for all over coverage or as an underglaze. Fires to Cone 06-05 (1828-1888°F, 998-1031°C). For decorative items only. One-pint bottles.

These lead-free, opaque glazes develop opalescence and interesting textures with high gloss and iridescence similar to mother-of-pearl. Apply Amaco Opalescent Glaze to bisque or raku by brushing, dipping, or pouring. This product comes in liquid form.

No two pieces are ever alike because of the many variations in texture which occur in firing. Apply Amaco Textured Alligator Liquid Glazes on mature fired bisque by brushing, pouring, or dipping.

Dick Blick's new line of lead-free stoneware glazes has been formulated to give your pots that professional look without the need for a gas kiln. However, these glazes will give beautiful results when reduced in the recommended cone range.

Laguna recommends its EM series of glazes for schools and other users desiring low fire (Cone 06) glazes that do not contain lead. When properly fired, they are ideal for surfaces that come into contact with food or drink.

Finish off your pieces with Pottery Cascade, which intermingles with the other glazes to produce a flowing cascade of colors. It allows the color of the base glaze to show through from underneath.

Start with Pottery Coat to make earthenware bisque simulate stoneware or terra cotta. For best results, use Pottery Coat as a base and the others as an overglaze.

Spectacular results can be achieved with these bright, intense, highly saturated glazes. Speedball Glazes can be used on earthenware clays that have been bisqued to cone 04. All colors fire to a glossy finish and are lead-free and non-toxic.

Stroke & Coat Wonderglaze is specially formulated for application on bisque. The ready to use colors stay true from jar to fired finish and the colors are intermixable. Apply one coat for translucent effects, and three coats for rich, opaque coverage.

Mix Amaco Gum Solution with water and add to thick glazes to improve brush ability. Gum Solution slows drying time to prevent cracking. Restore old, thick glazes to their original creamy consistency or use it as a binding medium for dry enameling powders.

Use Suspendaid as an additive to Amaco regular brushing glazes to make them more like dipping glazes. Suspendaid can also be added to Amaco Dry Dripping Glazes if too much water has been added to the mix, resulting in settling.

Wax emulsion, applied on greenware or bisque as a method of decoration, "resists" application of glaze, slip, and underglaze. Non-toxic.

A collection of traditional Cone 10 reduction lead-free glazes made to fire at Cone 5-6 (2167-2232°F, 1186-1222°C) in an oxidation kiln. For best results, follow these special application instructions for the following PC series glazes.

An Engobe is similar to a clay slip that is applied to the surface of a piece of pottery in order to change its color or add decorative accents. Supplied in dry form , these rich earth tones are beautiful either glazed or unglazed.

These brilliant, ready-to-use colors cover large areas quickly, easily, and smoothly. Amaco Lead-Free Underglaze Decorating Colors are equally good for detailed painting, sgraffito, watercolor efffect, free brush, wax resist, and mishima decoration.

Vivid colors will add a bright flare to any underglaze design. Apply two even coats to mature fired bisque. Use a clear glaze to smooth out and brighten the colors. When using a clear glaze, apply over the decorated object before firing of the underglaze.

Lead-free Amaco Velvets are semi-translucent underglazes which have the appearance of velvet when left unglazed. They become opaque after three coats. When glazed with transparent matte glaze they will assume a soft, satin finish. Cone 05-6.

Speedball Ceramic Underglazes feature bright and intense colors that are highly saturated for spectacular results. The liquid, opaque colors will not move or bleed, making them perfect for detailed painting, design work, and sgraffito.

For pastel techniques, draw on bisque before finishing with a transparent glaze. Sketching on bisque results in pebbled appearance. Blend by rubbing with fingers. Obtain a watercolor effect by brushing sketches with water.

These underglaze pencils provide intense color for shading, fine line drawing, or identification. Maximum firing temperature is Cone 10 for Blue, Black, and Green. Cone 5 for Brown and Yellow, and Cone 05 for Rose. Lead Free.

These markers are similar to felt tip pens, and can be used on both greenware and bisque. They're easy to use — just push down on the tip until it is saturated and the pen is ready to decorate. Cone 10-06 (1641°F – 1830°F).
