Encaustic paints have recently achieved popularity as an alternative to oil and acrylic paints. A very spontaneous and versatile medium, encaustics can be modeled, layered, sculpted, textured, and combined with collage materials. No drying time required.

R&F Encaustic Gesso is a waterbased, non-toxic ground for encaustic painting. It is non-yellowing, flexible, non-cracking and sandable to a smooth, clean, absorbent surface. It cleans up easily with soap and water.

R&F Encaustic Medium is recommended to form transparencies and extend paints. It is encaustic paint without pigment. Created with the same mixture of purified and bleached beeswax and dammar resin as R&F Encaustic Paints, it maintains film hardness.

Use R&F Impasto/Modeling Wax beneath encaustic paints to build up textures and create three dimensional shapes. Impasto/Modeling Wax is a combination of microcrystalline wax and beeswax. Its melting point is higher than that of encaustic paints.

The R&F Heated Palette is the perfect tool for working with encaustic paints. It provides a platform on which to keep knives and brushes warm and ready for use. It also makes a great heated surface for mixing colors. The aluminum plate measures 16" × 16".

Heated spatulas fuse and manipulate the surface of your work. You can scribe, carve, burnish, blend or model wax with them. The different heads were designed from sculpting, painting, and printing tools. Each shape is designed to serve multiple functions.
